5 Ways to Ensure Your First Kiss Looks Picture Perfect on Camera

Your first kiss is one of the most important memories on your big day – it deserves to be beautifully captured. While your photographer will guide you and do the best they can to get the shot, there are a few things you can do to increase the chances of capturing the perfect first kiss photo.

  1. Speak to your officiant ahead of time. Your officiant plays an important role in your big day, but this doesn’t mean they need to be in the background of your first kiss. To make sure the shot goes according to plan, ask your officiant ahead of time if they can please step aside during the shot.
  2. Kiss a little longer. Most photographers will tell you they couldn’t get a good first kiss shot because the couple didn’t embrace for long enough. Kiss your partner for a little longer than you think is necessary to give your photographer more time to get the best photo. In fact, kiss twice if you need to.
  3. Speak to your wedding party. In the same way that your officiant can get in the way of a good shot, so can your wedding party. Politely ask them to please step out of the shot when you are ready to have your first kiss. Again, do this ahead of time so that it all goes smoothly in the moment.
  4. Practice at home. It may sound a bit strange but it really helps to practice your first kiss at home prior to the wedding. This way, you won’t overthink the kiss or the position of your hands when you are in front of your family and friends.
  5. Keep it PG. Even if you and your partner are a passionate couple, it’s best to stick to a soft, tender kiss for this all-important photo. It’s also essential that you don’t leave your arms dangling at your sides as this makes for an awkward-looking shot.

In the end, the more you slow down and focus on your partner, the better the entire first kiss will be. Try not to focus too much on the fact that your kiss is being photographed, just enjoy this special moment.
