How to Keep Your Wedding Dress Safe While Traveling

There are a few reasons why brides end up having to travel with their wedding dresses. Perhaps you bought it in another country, state, or city, or you need to get it to a wedding venue that’s not in your hometown.

At the end of the day, you found your dream wedding dress, so naturally, you want to make sure it remains as perfect as it is now.

Here are a few tips that will ensure your wedding dress stays safe while in transit:

•      Carry It onto the Plane with You. Whatever you do, never check your wedding dress under the airplane. Not only is there no guarantee it will reach its final destination, but ideally, you should be the only person handling your dress. On this note, don’t feel pressured into storing your dress in a way that doesn’t feel comfortable to you. Phone the airline ahead of time to find out about your options.
•      Bring a Handheld Steamer with You. There is always a chance of creases, which you don’t want in your photos, which is why a handheld steamer is a must. If you don’t have one or the space for it, get someone in your wedding party to help you out.
•      Buy a Travel Bag. Keep your dress protected by investing in a quality travel garment bag. Your bridal salon will provide you with one upon purchasing your dress, but they aren’t always the best quality. If you don’t have time to find one, ask your local dry cleaners for a thicker bag that you can place over the dress. Keeping your dress well protected is relevant whether you are traveling by plane or car.
•      Be Careful How You Handle Your Dress. When traveling, chances are you will have a beverage with you at some point or another. Do not have any beverage, except water, in your hand at the same time that you handle your dress.
