There’s something so dreamy about a destination wedding, but it does require a little extra planning, particularly when it comes to finding vendors.

It can be difficult to source the right photographer when you can’t rely on recommendations from family and friends, but it’s not impossible – here are a few tips and tricks to help you find a destination wedding photographer.

-          Read as many reviews as possible. Once you start finding photographers you like, whether it’s at your destination, close by, or local, make sure that you’re reading as many reviews as possible. The good news is that it’s not difficult to find reviews – Google and social media are two excellent sources.

-          Look at their experience and portfolio. Next, you want to make sure that the wedding photographer you’re considering has the destination photography experience you need. Along with reviewing their portfolio, make sure that they’re not just someone with a camera who is looking to bag a free trip. Find out more about the destinations they’ve shot at before to gauge their experience.

-          Tell them about your destination. As you start narrowing down your choices, it’s essential to find out whether a photographer can and is willing to shoot at your destination. Some photographers can’t legally work in certain locations, so be sure to check.

-          Talk to them about your photo ideas. Many couples who consider destination weddings have dreams of unconventional photos. If you’re planning to do something epic like get ready on a mountain top, this is something you need to discuss with potential photographers before you pay a deposit.

-          Remember, there are extra costs. Because budgets are a big deal when planning a wedding, it’s worth reminding you that you will need to factor in extra costs. Your photographer will charge you for travel as well as accommodation costs. Be sure to ask about any other additional costs they may add on.

-          Book them in advance. Destination weddings require more planning in general, so it’s best to start searching for a photographer early on to ensure you get the person you want.

Now that you know what to look out for and consider, you can start your search for your ideal destination wedding photographer.
