Tips for Creating an Unforgettable Playlist for Your Wedding Reception

There’s nothing quite like a playlist that keeps guests on the dance floor. Plus, who doesn’t want to see their guests having the best time as they celebrate your nuptials with you?

You could always leave this task to your DJ, but this won’t give you as much control over the playlist, which is why so many couples are choosing to create their own playlists.

Here are a few tips that will ensure your playlist is unforgettable.

-          Ask for requests. One way to make sure you’re including music all guests will love is to ask for requests. The easiest way to do this is to include a song request field on your wedding invite. You can even invite your wedding party over before the wedding to build a few playlists together.

-          When you think you’ve added enough, add some more. Rather have too many songs on your playlist than have to put it on repeat. Ideally, you should have at least 5 – 6 hours’ worth of music.

-          Avoid negative songs. Remember, this is a celebration, so stay away from songs that are overly negative or non-romantic.

-          Add more than one genre. You and your partner may love a particular genre, but this doesn’t mean your guests will. Even though this is your day, and you get to decide what to play, keep it fun for everyone by adding a mix of genres.

-          Limit the slow songs. Your playlist should absolutely include slow songs, but people want to have some high-energy fun too, so add at least 4 or 5 fun, upbeat songs for every slow song.

-          Stay true to you. While you want to keep your guests happy, it’s still important to select songs that you really want to hear.

-          Give it a listen. Once you have your playlist, take an evening with friends and listen to it from start to finish. This way, you can make some adjustments if it doesn’t flow in the way you were hoping.

Once you have your final list, you can share it with your DJ and get ready for a night of dancing!
